U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing Black History Month, climate change policy, and justice efforts in Minnesota.
On February 12, 2026, Pettersen recognized the centennial of Black History Month. She stated: “This month marks 100 years of celebrating Black history and the sacrifices and courage of leaders who came before us. Black History Month is about honoring the people who have shaped and strengthened our country, but it’s also about building on the progress we have made.”
Later that day, Pettersen commented on recent federal policy changes related to climate change. In her post she said: “Trump just took away our government’s ability to address climate change. As a mom with two young kids, I can’t think of anything more dire for the future of our kids. We are facing the consequences of climate change every day in Colorado and paying the price. This will have a”
That evening, she addressed ongoing events in Minnesota concerning law enforcement actions. Pettersen wrote: “Thank you for fighting back and not giving up. Because of you, they are being forced to pull their rogue agents out of Minnesota, but this is far from enough. We won’t stop until there’s justice. And we won’t stop until there’s change.”
Pettersen has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after replacing Ed Perlmutter. Before her current role in Congress, she served in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Lakewood in 1981 and currently residing there, Pettersen graduated from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
