U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of messages on October 16, 2025, addressing the recovery of Matthew Silverstone after a recent shooting and emphasizing the importance of continued government funding for essential services.
In her first post on October 16, Pettersen shared news about Matthew Silverstone’s release from the hospital: “Matthew Silverstone was just released from the hospital after beating the odds and overcoming two gunshot wounds. This news has brought much-needed light to our community after experiencing such a tragic event. I can’t begin to imagine the nightmare that their families have”.
She followed up with another message expressing support for those affected by the incident. Quoting Matthew’s mother, Paige, Pettersen wrote on October 16: “While there will be a long road to recovery, I know we will continue to show up and support them every step of the way. As Matthew’s mother, Paige, has stated, ‘Your generosity has reminded us that we are not alone. Each act of kindness, each word of encouragement, each prayer,”.
Later that day, Pettersen addressed broader concerns about federal funding and its impact on public services. She stated: “We must fund our government and make sure Americans get to keep their healthcare. Federal workers who keep our country running shouldn’t be the ones paying the price. These are the people processing veterans’ benefits, protecting our airways, ensuring our water is safe, and”.
Brittany Pettersen has served as Colorado’s 7th district representative since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously held positions in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
