U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has used her social media platform to address issues ranging from early childhood education and violence against religious communities to government spending under former President Donald Trump.
On May 18, 2026, Pettersen wrote about the significance of early education programs and criticized former President Trump’s approach to them. She stated, “Access to early childhood education can be life-changing for kids as they develop and grow. For 61 years, Head Start has ensured working class families have access to quality education. But Trump’s attacks on these programs are putting that promise at risk. That’s why I’ve been”.
Later that same day, Pettersen responded to news of an attack targeting a Muslim community at their place of worship. In her post from May 18, she said, “I’m heartbroken to see another violent attack targeting the Muslim community at their place of worship. I’m grateful to the security guard who gave his life to prevent a greater tragedy from occurring. There is no place in our country for this hate-fueled violence. Every person”.
The following day, on May 19, Pettersen addressed federal spending under Donald Trump: “Trump promised to root out waste, fraud, and abuse in our government — but the call is coming from inside the house. Trump is taking $1.8 BILLION taxpayer dollars to create a slush fund for his insurrectionist buddies while bleeding our government dry and leaving working”.
Pettersen began serving in Congress in 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter and represents Colorado’s 7th District (source). Before her election to Congress, she served in both chambers of the Colorado legislature: first in the House of Representatives (2013-2019) and then in the Senate (2019-2023). Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a Bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
