U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, addressed the recent shooting at Evergreen High School and condemned political violence in a series of posts on September 10 and 11, 2025.
On September 10, Pettersen wrote, “It’s becoming too common for people to be violently targeted because of who they are or what they believe. Let me clear – ANY political violence is completely unacceptable. We have to unequivocally denounce it & put a stop to it immediately.”
Later that day, she commented on the ongoing situation at Evergreen High School: “I know our state and community are rattled and anxiously waiting for updates on the tragic shooting at Evergreen High School. @jeffcosheriffco is providing updates. We will continue sharing resources and information as we get them.”
In a follow-up post on September 11, Pettersen expressed empathy for those affected by the incident: “Just like every parent reading the headline, I felt the shock and terror of today and thought: what if that was my kid? What if that was his school? I can only imagine what the families, students, and educators are going through right now. Please know that we are here to support”.
Brittany Pettersen has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously held seats in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981, Pettersen resides in Lakewood and holds a BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
