U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on October 10 and 11, 2025, addressing the impact of an ongoing federal government shutdown and its consequences for federal workers and families.
On October 10, Pettersen wrote: “Federal workers have been demonized and targeted since Trump took office — now he’s using their livelihoods to try and get what he wants. Truly a disgusting human being.”
Later that same day, she addressed the economic stakes for families: “This week we’re discussing what’s at stake during Trump’s Shutdown and the skyrocketing costs that will hit families in just a few weeks if we don’t act now. The ACA tax credits lower monthly premiums for millions of hardworking families. But if they expire, costs will skyrocket” (October 10, 2025).
The following day, Pettersen highlighted resources available to those affected by the shutdown: “Attention Lakewood! If you’ve been impacted by the shutdown, our office is here to support you. Join us for a Federal Worker Resource Fair for resources, information, and support for federal employees in CO-7. RSVP here.” (October 11, 2025).
Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th district in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. Before her current role, she served in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature from 2013 to 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and residing in Lakewood, Pettersen is also an alumna of Metropolitan State University of Denver.
