U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, recently used her social media platform to discuss the impact of recent federal legislation and its effects on her constituents, particularly in Lake County.

On August 16, 2025, Pettersen began her rural tour with a community event in Leadville, stating: “Kicked off my rural tour in Lake County with a community coffee event in Leadville to give updates on the implementation of Trump’s Big Bad Bill. It’s going to be a difficult road ahead, but I know we’ll get through it together. My team is always here to support you in every”.

The following day, she highlighted meetings with local Latino leaders from organizations Voces Unidas and Full Circle Lake County. In her post dated August 17, 2025, Pettersen wrote: “Proud to meet with Latino leaders from @VocesUnidasOrg and @fullcirclelake who serve one of the largest immigrant communities in CO-07 in Lake County. Immigrants are essential to the fabric of our community & our local economy. So many feel anxiety and fear right now as Trump”.

Later that same day, Pettersen addressed concerns about health care coverage for Coloradans due to the new legislation: “Over 400,000 Coloradans are at risk of losing health care because of Trump’s Big Bad Bill. This is going to have cascading effects for our communities and our economy, raising costs for everyone. Never buy Trump’s lies – he never cared about you and this bill couldn’t make that”.

Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously served in both chambers of the Colorado legislature—first as a member of the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and then as a state senator until joining Congress. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
