U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, shared updates on local meetings and public health issues in a series of posts on August 16, 2025.
In her first post from August 16, Pettersen described recent discussions with Chaffee County officials regarding the effects of federal budget changes. She stated, “Last week, I met with Chaffee County public health, human services, and community leaders to talk about the crisis Trump has created from his budget – from $1M in new SNAP admin costs to ACA subsidies set to expire, which could spike local premiums by 131% – the highest increase” (August 16, 2025).
Later that day, Pettersen highlighted a transition within the West Metro Fire Protection District: “It was an honor to join the @WestMetroFire community in celebrating two exceptional leaders. As Chief Don Lombardi retires after a distinguished career of service, we welcomed Jeremy Metz as he steps into the role with the same dedication and integrity. Both embody what it means” (August 16, 2025).
In another post marking National Breastfeeding Month, Pettersen advocated for increased support for new parents: “August is National Breastfeeding Month! Support and education for new parents on breastfeeding is crucial for the health and well-being of both moms and babies. Access to proper resources can significantly impact a child’s early years. As a mom of two, I know how important that” (August 16, 2025).
Brittany Pettersen has served in Congress since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Before her tenure in Washington D.C., she served in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, she graduated with a BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
