U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has recently addressed several issues facing her constituents through a series of posts on social media. Her comments touched on the rising cost of housing, oversight of ICE detention centers, and the impact of extreme weather events in Colorado.
On December 17, 2025, Pettersen highlighted concerns about affordable housing in rural communities: “I hear from Coloradans every day who are being crushed by rising costs, and housing is often the #1 pain point, especially in our rural communities. We need an all hands on deck solution to confront this crisis by removing barriers preventing the construction of more housing.”
The following day, she commented on congressional oversight of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities: “We deserve accountability & transparency for ICE & the inhumane conditions reported at detention centers under Trump’s direction. Today, the courts reaffirmed what we already know: all Members of Congress have the right to oversee ICE. I’m grateful for the leadership of”
Later that same day, Pettersen addressed ongoing power outages caused by severe winds affecting parts of Colorado: “Power is still out in counties like Jeffco because of extreme winds. We used to worry about snow days. Now schools are closing for wind days, with power shut off over wildfire risk, even in the winter. Please stay informed, follow local guidance, and take care of one another as”
Brittany Pettersen has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after replacing Ed Perlmutter and previously held positions in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature (Colorado House from 2013-2019 and Senate from 2019-2023). She was born in Colorado in 1981 and resides in Lakewood. Pettersen earned her BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
