U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, addressed a range of policy issues in a series of posts on her social media account between January 16 and 17, 2026.
On January 16, Pettersen criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to the Insurrection Act and its potential use against immigrant communities. She wrote, “The Insurrection Act was never meant to be a tool for presidential intimidation and unchecked power. This move by Trump is straight out of the authoritarian playbook.
Our military exists to defend us, not to turn on its own citizens and target immigrant communities. This is far” (January 16, 2026).
Later that day, she commented on immigration enforcement policies under Trump and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem. Pettersen stated, “We all agree that convicted violent criminals should not be allowed to stay in this country. But that’s not what Trump & Kristi Noem are doing—75% of people detained in December alone had NO criminal convictions. They are terrorizing our immigrant community, ripping families” (January 16, 2026).
On January 17, Pettersen highlighted her legislative work expanding retirement savings plans for workers without employer-sponsored options: “More Coloradans now have a real path to retirement security because of legislation I passed at the state level to expand retirement saving plans for workers who don’t have options through their employer. I’m proud to help ensure working families aren’t left behind & can build” (January 17, 2026).
Brittany Pettersen has served as the U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she served in both chambers of the Colorado legislature from 2013 through early 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, Pettersen holds a bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
