U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has posted a series of messages on her social media accounts addressing the impact of the ongoing government shutdown and immigration policies on Colorado families and businesses.
On November 7, 2025, Pettersen wrote: “Shutdowns don’t just stop the government, they stop critical services families rely on.
In the latest Breaking it Down with Brittany, we look at how programs like Head Start are being affected, what’s at stake for Colorado families, and what, if anything, the White House is”.
The following day, November 8, she addressed concerns about legal immigration and its effects on local economies: “Trump’s attacks on legal immigration are hurting Colorado’s economy. 60% of ski resorts rely on workers with J-1 visas, and many are now scrambling as they are unable to fill the positions needed.
When we shut immigrants out, we hurt our local businesses, our tourism industry,”.
On November 9, Pettersen commented further on the consequences of the shutdown for healthcare access: “Millions of Americans’ healthcare is hanging in the balance because Republicans refuse to lower the costs for regular people. We have now reached the longest government shutdown in history, and it’s past time to work together to reopen the government and address this health care”.
Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th district in Congress since 2023 after previously serving in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature. She was born in Colorado in 1981 and resides in Lakewood. Pettersen holds a BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
