U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of messages on social media addressing civil rights and public health issues on August 20 and 21, 2025.
On August 20, Pettersen raised concerns about immigration enforcement actions in her state. She wrote, “We have been notified that people who are here legally have been detained in Chaffee County by ICE (not involving local law enforcement). Truly unimaginable that this is happening in the United States of America where freedom and democracy and the rule of law were the envy of”. In a follow-up post on the same day, she emphasized constitutional protections for all residents: “It’s important to know your rights right now. Everyone — regardless of your immigration status — has constitutional rights. Learn more about your basic rights while you are physically here in the US: https://t.co/VuIXrrPTcJ 2/2”.
The following day, Pettersen highlighted her involvement in bipartisan efforts to address fentanyl abuse: “I’m honored to join in introducing a bipartisan resolution that recognizes today as Fentanyl Prevention & Awareness Day. I stood alongside my mom, who struggled with a decades-long battle with addiction. She is now celebrating 8 years in recovery – a milestone only made possible https://t.co/5XWpDLmQL4”.
Brittany Pettersen has served as the U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Before joining Congress, she was a member of both the Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and the Colorado Senate from 2019 to 2023.
