U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, recently addressed a range of issues on her official Twitter account, including mental health awareness, congressional actions on war powers, and housing affordability.
On May 21, 2026, Pettersen marked Mental Health Awareness Month by sharing a personal story: “May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Like so many families, ours has been impacted by mental health issues and a system that doesn’t support those who are struggling. Eighteen years ago, I lost my older brother Justin to suicide. That loss never leaves our family, and we miss https://t.co/nz0wL8zBuy”.
Later the same day, she criticized Republican lawmakers for their handling of the War Powers Resolution vote: “Republicans are too scared to check executive power. Today, they pulled the War Powers Resolution rather than vote on it. They knew they’d lose. So instead of ending Trump’s illegal war in Iran, they killed the vote. Too weak to follow the Constitution. Too loyal to Trump to do https://t.co/wGQBkiCmD2”.
On May 22, 2026, Pettersen highlighted legislative efforts to address housing shortages in Colorado: “Rent is going up. Homeownership is out of reach. And Colorado is short 100,000 homes for the people who live here. This week, the House passed bipartisan legislation I worked on to build more housing and bring down costs for all of us. Passing this major housing package is a https://t.co/aMNnvzmPGb”.
Pettersen has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Ed Perlmutter and previously held positions in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature (Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and Colorado Senate from 2019 to 2023). She was born in Colorado in 1981 and resides in Lakewood. Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
