U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing concerns over postal service disruptions, disability rights, and the impact of trade policies on U.S. farmers.

On December 9, 2025, Pettersen drew attention to the challenges faced by Poncha Springs residents following the closure of their local post office. She wrote, “After their post office closed with just 9 days notice, Poncha Springs residents have been forced to drive dozens of miles just to get their mail — including essential prescriptions, bills, checks, and notices. @SenatorBennet, @SenatorHick, and I are pushing USPS for immediate https://t.co/318dhg0FHX”.

Later that day, Pettersen criticized former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding people with disabilities. In her post dated December 9, she stated: “Trump has repeatedly attacked the disability community — mocking disabled people & using derogatory language. It’s disgusting & beyond appalling. Now he’s ripping away the funding that supports children with disabilities. As a mom, I’m truly astounded. I’ve joined my colleagues https://t.co/raWIzal6xv”.

The following day on December 10, Pettersen commented on Trump’s trade policies and their effect on American agriculture: “Trump created an economic disaster for small businesses and industries in the US due to his trade policies. Now, he’s trying to direct money to keep our farmers afloat because their costs have skyrocketed and their market has shrunk. Band-Aids like this aren’t enough. Our farmers https://t.co/mxH2vKVYMT”.

Pettersen is currently serving her first term in the U.S. House of Representatives after replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023; prior to her election to Congress she served in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature from 2013 through 2023 (Colorado House of Representatives from 2013-2019 and Colorado Senate from 2019-2023). Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, Pettersen holds a bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
