U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, recently addressed several pressing issues on her official social media account, including the impact of tariffs on Colorado’s economy and concerns about political violence following recent events in her community.

On September 18, 2025, Pettersen warned about the economic consequences of federal tariff policies: “Our state stands to lose $500 million in revenue thanks to Trump’s tariff tirade. People’s livelihoods are at stake & far too many businesses are at risk of going bankrupt. Large corporations can weather the storm of these tariffs but it’s our small businesses that are going to”. The statement highlights worries that while large companies may be able to manage the financial strain from new tariffs, smaller businesses face significant risks.

Later that day, Pettersen commented on national tensions and local trauma after an incident at Evergreen High School: “I just got done speaking on the House floor following the horrific events of last week in my community at Evergreen High School and the rise of political violence nationally. We face a choice at this moment, and I want to personally ask my colleagues to join me in actually doing”.

Addressing broader national discourse and referencing recent tragic news involving Charlie Kirk, Pettersen criticized former President Donald Trump’s response: “Charlie Kirk’s death is tragic, but instead of uniting our country to stand against the rise in ALL political violence, Trump is using this moment to target the people who disagree with him, including using the FCC Chair to threaten media companies unless they fire or muzzle”.

Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of both chambers of Colorado’s legislature—first as a state representative from 2013 to 2019 and then as a state senator until her election to Congress. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
