U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, recently addressed several issues on her social media accounts, ranging from wildfire preparedness to women’s representation in Congress and federal spending.

On April 2, 2026, Pettersen highlighted ongoing wildfire risks in Fremont County following a recent fire and an unusually dry winter. She posted: “Fremont County just experienced a wildfire, and with one of the driest winters on record, the risk isn’t over.

I sat down with the Fremont County Emergency Director on the information you need to prepare:

Later that day, Pettersen reflected on the anniversary of Jeannette Rankin becoming the first woman to serve in Congress. She wrote: “110 years ago, Jeannette Rankin became the first woman to serve in Congress — nearly 130 years after the Constitution and 3 years before the 19th Amendment.

She led the way for women like me but there’s still so much work left to do to ensure Congress reflects the people we https://t.co/B71YilV1Hs” (April 2, 2026).

On April 3, Pettersen criticized certain federal expenditures by public figures and questioned priorities regarding funding for public services. Her post stated: “Hegseth wasted $15M on ribeye steaks, $7M on lobster, and $98K on a grand piano — while Trump spent $400M on a ballroom, millions on private jets, and profited over $1.4B off the presidency.

All while saying they don’t have enough money for your healthcare, child care or really” (April 3, 2026).

Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th district since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature—first as a member of the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and then as a state senator until her election to Congress.
She was born in Colorado in 1981 and resides in Lakewood.
Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
