U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, recently addressed a range of issues affecting Colorado residents through a series of posts on her social media account. Pettersen, who has served in Congress since 2023 after replacing Ed Perlmutter, discussed wildfire risks, food assistance concerns, and her recognition as a changemaker.
On October 20, 2025, Pettersen highlighted the growing wildfire risk in Colorado, referencing warnings from Xcel Energy. She stated, “Xcel Energy is warning about dangerous winds and the potential for power shutoffs as wildfire risk grows across Colorado. Our communities know this threat well, and we also know that it takes investment, coordination, and trust in our government to keep people safe. But right”.
Later that day, Pettersen acknowledged her inclusion in Marie Claire’s 2025 Changemakers list. She wrote, “I’m honored to be recognized as one of Marie Claire’s 2025 Changemakers, alongside many other badass women who are ‘visionaries, leaders and rule breakers.’ It’s the women in my life who challenged me to believe in myself and to want more than what I saw growing up. On October 21, 2025, Pettersen addressed the issue of food assistance for Colorado residents. She stated, “600k Coloradans are being notified that they won’t be receiving their SNAP benefits in November. That means hungry kids, seniors without food on their plates, & families unable to pay for their groceries. All because Trump refuses to address rising health care costs and open”.
Pettersen has been an active figure in Colorado politics, having previously served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and the Colorado Senate from 2019 to 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
