U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on January 9, 2026, expressing concern over federal law enforcement practices and the deployment of military forces in American cities.
In her first post, Pettersen stated: “I’m fighting for legislation to ensure ICE agents are unmasked & clearly identifiable. No agent should be able to rip a citizen off the street & into an unmarked car. We also need all ICE agents to wear body cameras — transparency and accountability should not be optional.” (January 9, 2026)
She continued by addressing broader concerns about federal actions in various cities: “But it’s not just happening in Minneapolis or Portland. This is an escalating pattern — Trump is deploying the military into our cities, he’s terrorizing immigrants, & justifying the murder of innocent people.
I know many of you are incredibly concerned & want to know what we’re” (January 9, 2026)
In a follow-up message, Pettersen thanked community members for their advocacy: “Thank you for caring about the people in our communities who are being targeted and showing up and speaking out to support them. I’m thinking of the families whose lives have been shattered because of this administration and the lives that have been lost. I promise I won’t stop” (January 9, 2026)
Brittany Pettersen has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of both the Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and the Colorado Senate from 2019 to 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
