U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has used her social media platform to comment on abortion rights and recent immigration enforcement actions.
On January 22, 2026, Pettersen reflected on the anniversary of a landmark Supreme Court decision, stating: “Fifty-three years ago, the Supreme Court established a woman’s right to an abortion. I grew up in the US for decades, where women were able to decide their future for themselves. Where women didn’t have to worry about their own lives if something went wrong, and where doctors”.
Later that day, she addressed her opposition to a bill concerning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. On January 22, 2026, she wrote: “Today, I voted no on a bill that gives Donald Trump and Kristi Noem a green light to continue ICE operations that are lawless, dangerous, and out of control. That’s why I introduced amendments to put guardrails in place — to keep children with their families, stop the transfer”.
Continuing her criticism of current immigration practices on January 23, 2026, Pettersen posted: “Now they are literally detaining kids and using them as bait. They said they would target ‘violent criminals,’ but we know that is far from reality.
My heart breaks for this 5-year-old who should be with his family, not locked away behind bars. There aren’t even words to”.
Brittany Pettersen has served in the U.S. Congress since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously held positions in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature from 2013 through early 2023 and was born in Colorado in 1981.
Brittany Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
