U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has posted a series of tweets criticizing recent government actions impacting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), federal health agencies, and support for farmers.
On October 16, Pettersen wrote: “Trump is capitalizing on this painful shutdown to completely wipe out the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This comes just a few years after our country and the world was hit with a global pandemic that killed over 1 million Americans and almost destroyed and”.
Two days later, on October 18, she continued her commentary by highlighting concerns about staffing reductions at federal health agencies: “This week on Breaking it Down with Brittany, we’re unpacking what’s really happening at the @CDCgov . From Trump’s massive RIFs to deep and dangerous cuts at @samhsagov , and what it all means for kids and families. We discuss why these cuts are happening, how they’ll impact”.
Later that same day, Pettersen addressed the impact of the government shutdown on agricultural communities: “Republicans like to say they stand with farmers, but they shut down the government, cutting off farm loans, disaster aid, and affordable health insurance for nearly 30% of farm workers. The vast majority of farms here in CO-7 are family-owned. These are families already facing”.
Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. Before her tenure in Congress, she served in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
