U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has posted a series of statements on social media criticizing recent Republican initiatives and discussing personal experiences with the opioid crisis.
On September 17, 2025, Pettersen wrote: “Trump and the Republicans are figuring out what we all already knew – the Big Ugly Bill is bad for Americans and deeply unpopular.
Trying to rebrand this disastrous bill isn’t going to change anything. Trump might be a conman but he won’t be able to con his way out of the pain https://t.co/kDt7VVVobU“
Later that day, she addressed concerns about law enforcement practices and Supreme Court decisions related to immigration policy. In her post from September 17, 2025, she stated: “Stopping & arresting people based on how they look isn’t about safety. It’s just racist – plain & simple.
The fact that SCOTUS is green-lighting Trump’s anti-immigrant agenda is despicable.
I’m joining my colleagues in calling on @SecretaryNoem to give us answers. This https://t.co/STYDhJZyrt“
That evening, Pettersen shared a personal story regarding her family’s experience with opioid addiction and highlighted her legislative efforts: “My mom struggled with an opioid addiction for decades that eventually led to heroin & fentanyl. She’s one of the lucky ones — she got the care she needed to rebuild her life.
But too many families are still being torn apart by this crisis. That’s why I introduced bipartisan https://t.co/j2hG886AcB“
Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. Before serving in Congress, she was a member of both the Colorado House of Representatives (2013–2019) and the Colorado Senate (2019–2023). Born in Colorado in 1981, Pettersen currently resides in Lakewood and holds a BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
