U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform this week to criticize Republican spending priorities and highlight concerns about healthcare costs and immigration enforcement in Colorado.
On May 6, Pettersen posted: “$1 billion for Trump’s ballroom. But somehow there’s “no money” for housing we can afford, for child care, or for health care. Republicans’ priorities couldn’t be clearer.”
Later that day, she addressed healthcare premiums under the Affordable Care Act (ACA), writing on May 6: “Under the ACA, we brought healthcare premiums down to just $111 a month. But Republicans have already driven them back up 58%. That’s added costs for families who are already struggling to cover gas, groceries, and housing. And many families will have to choose between paying”
On May 7, Pettersen turned her attention to immigration enforcement in Colorado: “Of the 4,160 immigration arrests in Colorado last year, most have never been convicted of a crime. Families are living in fear. Our care workers, our small business owners, & our neighbors are being ripped from our communities at a rate that should alarm every single one of us.”
Pettersen has served as the U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously held seats in both the Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and the Colorado Senate from 2019 to 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
