U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform on October 15, 2025, to criticize former President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans over the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on federal workers and the Colorado economy.
In a post from October 15, Pettersen stated, “Trump and Republicans are shutting down the government: threatening renters with eviction, locking families out of homeownership, & gutting small business financing. Every week of this shutdown could drain $54 billion from our economy. And that’s all off the backs of hardworking”.
Later that day, she emphasized her support for federal employees affected by the shutdown. In a subsequent post dated October 15, she wrote, “Trump might not value our federal workers, but my team and I have their backs. We’re working around the clock to support our constituents & put together a resource fair for our federal workers who have been impacted by the shutdown. What I heard overwhelmingly from the federal”.
In another statement posted the same evening, Pettersen criticized the Department of Energy’s decision to cancel projects in Colorado. She said, “Congress approved this funding, but @ENERGY just unlawfully canceled $600+ million in projects across CO as political retribution. That means gutted research, halted rural power upgrades, and lost jobs. All because Colorado does not like Trump. Proud to join my colleagues”.
Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. Prior to her current role, she served in both chambers of the Colorado legislature: the House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and the Senate from 2019 to 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
