U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has publicly criticized the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) over recent actions and proposals involving detention facilities in Colorado, while also responding to a terrorist attack at a Michigan synagogue.
On March 11, 2026, Pettersen posted on her social media account: “Our tax dollars should never be used to terrorize our communities. Yet ICE is doing exactly that — and now wants to expand with a new detention facility in Hudson. @SenatorBennet, @SenatorHick and I are calling on @DHSgov to stop this expansion. I voted against funding these”.
Later the same day, she addressed concerns about secretive ICE practices in Colorado: “I’m leading the CO Dem Delegation in demanding answers from DHS following reports of secret ICE holding cells in Colorado. Holding vulnerable people in small rooms without proper facilities for days or weeks is unacceptable and inhumane. DHS must immediately explain how this”.
On March 12, 2026, Pettersen responded to an act of violence outside her state: “I’m devastated to learn about the terrorist attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. American Jews have never felt less safe in our country with the continued rise in antisemitism and acts of violence targeting them in their synagogues, their schools, and their”.
Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023 after previously serving both in the Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and the Colorado Senate from 2019 to 2023. She was born in Colorado in 1981 and resides in Lakewood; she holds a Bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
These statements come amid ongoing debates about immigration enforcement policies nationwide as well as rising concerns regarding antisemitic violence across the United States.
