U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, used her Twitter account this week to criticize Republican actions on surveillance, government funding, and agricultural policy. In a series of posts dated April 29 and April 30, Pettersen addressed concerns about civil liberties, government shutdowns, and the impact of recent legislation on rural communities.
On April 29, Pettersen wrote: “We cannot give Donald Trump unchecked authority to conduct warrantless surveillance of U.S. citizens by reauthorizing FISA without the necessary protections in place. Unfortunately, Republicans have refused to work with us to protect our constitutional rights, and now, we’re”.
The following day, she posted: “Republicans are abusing the legislative process to give $70 billion to Trump’s lawless operations instead of working with us on necessary reforms to ICE. They’ve forced the longest government shutdown in history & refused to come to the table to pay TSA agents, FEMA workers, and”.
Later that same day, Pettersen continued her criticism regarding agricultural policy: “Trump’s tariffs, the cost of the Iran war, and historic droughts are already crushing rural communities across Colorado, yet Republicans just passed a Farm Bill that will only make it worse.
Republicans just voted to destroy our forests, make it harder to fight wildfires, and”.
Brittany Pettersen has served as a member of Congress since 2023 after replacing Ed Perlmutter. She previously held positions in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature from 2013 through early 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, she is an alumna of Metropolitan State University of Denver.
