U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on social media criticizing Republican actions on health care subsidies and President Donald Trump’s conduct regarding legal compliance and the release of government files.

On January 8, 2026, Pettersen addressed recent legislative developments related to health care: “Republicans have refused to extend life-saving subsidies that make sure families in Colorado can afford health care. Democrats have refused to back down, and we were able to force a vote & pass these extensions. Today’s vote happened because people across the country spoke up,” she wrote.

The following day, January 9, Pettersen issued a statement concerning President Trump: “Trump doesn’t care about US laws, court orders, or international laws. We have a madman as president. Congress must come together to hold him accountable and rein in his abuse of power.”

Later that same day, she commented on the handling of files related to Jeffrey Epstein: “For months, Trump refused to release the Epstein files until Congress unanimously voted to FORCE their release. Now, he’s actively breaking the law by refusing to comply. The deadline has come and gone & the DOJ has broken the law by only releasing 1% of the total Epstein files.”

Brittany Pettersen has served in Congress since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter as representative for Colorado’s 7th district. Before her tenure in Congress, she was a member of both chambers of Colorado’s legislature—serving in the House from 2013 to 2019 and then in the Senate until her election to Congress.
She was born in Colorado in 1981 and resides in Lakewood.
Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
