U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, recently shared a series of posts on social media reflecting on the first year of Donald Trump’s presidency and its impact on federal employees, the national deficit, and healthcare policy.

In a post dated January 20, 2026, Pettersen wrote: “On Day One, he gutted our federal workforce. These aren’t just federal employees— they are our friends, neighbors, & community members.

Here in CO, they also manage our public lands, conduct groundbreaking research, & power our local economy. Trump and Elon promised the firings”.

On the same day, she continued: “It’s hard to believe that it’s only been a year since Trump was sworn into office. There’s been a constant onslaught of lawlessness & chaos— the damage feels insurmountable some days.

It’s been a long 12 months since Trump’s inauguration, with all that’s happened, it can be hard”.

Pettersen also commented on fiscal policy and healthcare: “And it adds $4.5 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade, so much for lowering costs.

While billionaires get tax breaks, Trump and the Republicans refused to extend the ACA Tax credits that help millions of families afford the care they need.

My heart breaks for”.

Brittany Pettersen has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously held positions in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature—from 2013 to 2019 in the House of Representatives and from 2019 to 2023 in the Senate. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, Pettersen is an alumna of Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
