U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has criticized former President Donald Trump’s economic policies and approach to government spending in a series of social media posts made on September 22 and 23, 2025.
In a post dated September 22, Pettersen wrote: “Trump said he would cut ‘fraud, waste, and abuse’ within our government, but instead, he’s helping his billionaire allies cheat our tax system. The IRS is not Trump’s political arm. The fraud, waste, and abuse is coming from inside the White House.”
The following day, she addressed economic pressures facing families in her state: “Colorado family budgets are feeling the squeeze & the cost of groceries, gas, & everything in between keep going up. Trump promised to lower costs on day one. Unsurprisingly, that was just another lie. Now, families in CO are stuck footing the bill.”
Later on September 23, Pettersen commented on federal budget negotiations: “This man is utterly unhinged. TLDR: Trump wants a government shutdown. He’d rather hurt the American people than work with Democrats to find a way forward to fund critical services & stop health care costs from skyrocketing.”
Brittany Pettersen has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023; she previously held seats in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature and holds a BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, Pettersen continues to address local concerns about rising living costs while participating actively in national policy debates.
