U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on her social media account in January 2026 addressing economic policy, political violence, and federal law enforcement actions.
On January 10, Pettersen criticized former President Donald Trump’s tariff policies and outlined her legislative priorities for the coming year. She wrote, “Trump’s reckless tariffs are driving up costs for Colorado families. That’s why affordable housing and child care are my top priorities heading into 2026 — so every Coloradan has a fair shot to get ahead.
While Trump continues to drag us backwards, I’ll keep standing up &” (January 10, 2026).
The following day, she commented on recent national political tensions and accusations made by Trump against Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Pettersen stated, “We’ve seen a disturbing rise in political violence — & the President continues to fan the flames. This week, Trump accused Governor Walz of assassinating MN lawmaker Melissa Hortman and her husband.
Not only is this outrageous and blatantly false, but accusations like this are” (January 11, 2026).
Later that same day, Pettersen criticized the current administration’s approach to law enforcement and immigration policy. She said, “This administration has no regard for human life or laws — shooting citizens in cold blood and ripping immigrants who have no criminal record away from their families without any accountability.
Now Kristi Noem wants to break the law even further by blocking Congress from” (January 11, 2026).
Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th district in the U.S. House of Representatives since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Prior to serving in Congress, she was a member of both the Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and the Colorado Senate from 2019 to 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, Pettersen earned her BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
