U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on May 13, 2026, criticizing former President Donald Trump’s policies and their effects on federal spending and support for her constituents.

In a tweet published at 15:00 UTC, Pettersen wrote: “Trump has spent $29 billion on an illegal war in Iran. Now he wants taxpayers to spend another $1 billion on a ballroom for himself.

But apparently, there’s “no money” for child care or health care. And according to Trump, “no one gives a sh*t about housing.”

Believe him when https://t.co/WfnEqTyIU0″.

Later the same day at 18:15 UTC, she addressed the issue of gas prices and government relief measures: “A gas tax ‘holiday’ might sound like a solution, but it’s a drop in the bucket.

Saving $2 a fill-up doesn’t offset the massive price surge Trump has caused with his war in Iran. We need real solutions to lower costs for families, not short-term stunts that do little to address https://t.co/QlAXGdqHyi”.

At 20:30 UTC, Pettersen commented on disaster preparedness funding and its allocation by the federal government: “Wildfire preparation is a matter of life or death for families in CO – it shouldn’t be used as a political bargaining chip.

But Trump is now using FEMA funding as a tool to retaliate against Colorado and California. It’s beyond cruel, and nothing about this behavior is normal. https://t.co/xgdhU4Fyic”.

Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th district since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Before serving in Congress, she was elected to the Colorado House of Representatives from 2013 to 2019 and served in the Colorado Senate from 2019 until her election to Congress. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
