U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, addressed a range of national and local issues in a series of tweets posted on January 8, 2026.
In her first tweet of the day, Pettersen criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to international relations, stating on January 8: “Pulling the US out of almost every UN and international organization is reckless and dangerous. These institutions and alliances have been built over the last century to bring lasting peace and stability to the world and the US. Donald Trump is unilaterally destroying our”.
Later that day, she marked the anniversary of a significant event in American political history by posting at 17:35 UTC: “Today, we remember the lives lost and forever changed in the Tucson shooting 15 years ago, and we honor Congresswoman Gabby Giffords — not only for her courage in surviving this unspeakable act of violence, but for the tireless work she has done since to turn pain into purpose.”
In another tweet posted at 21:19 UTC on January 8, Pettersen commented on legislative efforts regarding clean water access in Colorado: “Today, we unfortunately did not gain enough Republican support to override Trump’s veto of a bipartisan bill to deliver clean water to 50,000 residents in rural Colorado. Trump’s veto is the continuation of his retribution campaign against Colorado, and families in our state”.
Brittany Pettersen has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously held seats in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, Pettersen holds a Bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
