U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who has represented Colorado’s 7th district in Congress since 2023, recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing federal emergency funding and healthcare policy under former President Donald Trump. Pettersen, a Lakewood resident born in 1981 and a graduate of Metropolitan State University of Denver, has previously served in both chambers of the Colorado legislature.
On July 14, 2025, Pettersen addressed the aftermath of a terrorist attack in Boulder and criticized former President Trump for withholding federal emergency funds. She stated: “Colorado is still reeling from the terrorist attack in Boulder. But now Trump is illegally withholding billions of dollars already approved by Congress for FEMA to help us prevent attacks like this. This is completely backwards and puts us all at risk.”
Later that day, on July 14, 2025, Pettersen commented on proposed legislation she referred to as “Trump’s Big Bad Bill,” warning about its potential impact on healthcare services and costs. She wrote: “Trump’s Big Bad Bill is a catastrophe for our families Hospitals and nursing homes will shutter. Kids will go hungry. ERs will be completely overrun. And our healthcare costs will skyrocket. Trump said he was going to lower costs on day one. Instead he’s wreaking havoc –“
On July 15, 2025, Pettersen further accused Trump of self-enrichment through his policies and explained her legislative response as a member of the House Financial Services Committee (@USHouseFSC). She stated: “This is just Trump’s latest scam to enrich himself at the expense of the rest of us. That’s why I’m using my position on @USHouseFSC to cosponsor amendments so that Trump and future leaders can’t profit from their positions of power. Trump continues to sell off the interests”
Brittany Pettersen succeeded Ed Perlmutter in representing Colorado’s 7th District in Congress after serving in both the Colorado House of Representatives (2013-2019) and Colorado Senate (2019-2023).
