U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on April 29, 2026, addressing federal spending priorities and her personal connection to the opioid epidemic.

In one post from April 29, Pettersen criticized government spending on military action abroad: “$25 billion on an illegal war with Iran while claiming there’s no money for the things Americans actually want: health care, child care, & housing. Hegseth is beyond incompetent, & every day he’s calling the shots is a risk to our national security.”

Later that day, she shared her family’s experience with addiction and recovery: “My mom first became addicted to prescription opioids that led to a decades-long struggle, including heroin & fentanyl, but she’s one of the lucky ones. She finally got the medical care she desperately needed and will be celebrating 9 years in recovery this August. She is an”.

Pettersen also announced legislative action related to substance abuse awareness: “Today, I’m introducing a bipartisan resolution to recognize Fentanyl Awareness Day. Like so many Americans, my family has been impacted by the opioid epidemic. (1/4)”

Brittany Pettersen has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. Prior to her tenure in Congress, she was a member of both the Colorado House of Representatives and the Colorado Senate between 2013 and 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood at age 41, Pettersen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
