U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, currently representing Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform this week to address topics ranging from higher education access to the impacts of climate change and rising gas prices.

On April 9, Pettersen highlighted the influence of her alma mater in a post stating, “.@msudenver helped make me who I am today. And I know it continues to do that important work for young people every single day. It was great to connect with @janinedavidson about how we can protect and expand access for the next generation of Metro students.”

The following day, she commented on recent changes in fuel costs by writing, “Gas prices just saw the largest monthly jump in 6 decades because of Donald Trump’s unauthorized war in Iran. Families can already barely stay afloat. Now, Trump’s war is only making it worse. So much for doing anything to lower costs & help regular people…” (April 10).

Later that same day, Pettersen addressed local climate issues, noting new weather records and policy responses: “Colorado just had its warmest winter on record. We’re already seeing the impacts — less snow and growing risks to our water supply, more wildfire risk and fewer tourists visiting our state. For the first time, even Denver will enact water restrictions.” (April 10).

Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter and previously served both in the Colorado House of Representatives and State Senate. She was born in Colorado in 1981 and resides in Lakewood. Her educational background includes graduating from Metropolitan State University of Denver with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
