U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, used her social media platform this week to highlight concerns over the future of Social Security and access to healthcare services, particularly for seniors and people with disabilities.

On August 13, 2025, Pettersen shared details about a recent roundtable event, stating: “Ahead of the 90th anniversary of Social Security, we hosted a roundtable with @DRCOGorg, @EastersealsCO, and @CCDC501c3 at the Seniors Resource Center to discuss the benefits it has provided to lift seniors out of poverty and the enormous threats this safety net faces under”.

Continuing her focus on senior citizens and disability support programs, Pettersen posted on August 14: “For nearly a century, Social Security has been one of the greatest tools to lift seniors and people with disabilities out of poverty. But today, seniors are struggling to keep a roof over their heads and afford their medications as Trump’s Big Bad Bill and reckless tariffs send”.

Later that day, she addressed challenges faced by healthcare providers: “I heard firsthand from providers and administrators at @PPFA, which is reeling from Trump’s Big Bad Bill. The court’s pause is temporary — thousands still risk losing care. When I was younger and uninsured, I relied on Planned Parenthood for cancer screenings and basic”.

Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th congressional district since replacing Ed Perlmutter in 2023. Before joining Congress, she served in both chambers of the Colorado legislature from 2013 to 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981, Pettersen currently resides in Lakewood. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
