U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, marked the anniversary of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and addressed several issues affecting her constituents in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between December 14 and December 15, 2025.
On December 14, Pettersen reflected on the impact of the Sandy Hook tragedy: “13 years today, we witnessed one of the most horrific and devastating shootings — 26 teachers & kids were murdered in their classrooms. Their futures immediately ripped away. The Sandy Hook community shattered. Our country forever changed. And this heinous act of violence took” (December 14, 2025).
Later that day, she extended holiday greetings to Jewish families during Hanukkah: “Happy Hanukkah to those in Colorado & across the country.
It’s been an especially challenging year for the Jewish community, but I hope this celebration of light brings you hope, time with family & loved ones, & a bright holiday season.” (December 15, 2025).
Addressing healthcare policy debates on December 15, Pettersen criticized Republican approaches to healthcare reform: “Republicans have had a ‘concept of a plan’ for 15 years, but still haven’t offered a real alternative to the ACA.
Now, at the 11th hour, they’re scrambling with something that does nothing to address rising costs & support regular families and kicks millions off their health” (December 15, 2025).
Brittany Pettersen has represented Colorado’s 7th District since replacing Ed Perlmutter in Congress in 2023. She previously served in both chambers of Colorado’s state legislature—from the House from 2013 to 2019 and from the Senate from 2019 until her election to Congress. Born in Colorado in 1981 and residing in Lakewood at age forty-one as of this writing, Pettersen holds a bachelor’s degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
