U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has recently used her social media platform to voice concerns about former President Donald Trump’s immigration and trade policies, as well as the treatment of detained children at the border.

On May 2, 2026, Pettersen criticized changes to the U.S. immigration court system under Trump’s administration, stating: “Trump has gutted our immigration courts, firing over 200 judges, replacing them with ‘deportation judges’ and sending military lawyers with six months of training to decide some of the most complex cases in our legal system. One former judge said it best: ‘This is not the way a”.

The following day, on May 3, she highlighted her meeting with Irish Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason and expressed concern over U.S.-Ireland relations amid new tariffs: “We’re stronger when we stand together   It was an honor to meet with Her Excellency Geraldine Byrne Nason, the Irish Ambassador. Coloradans and the Irish share a strong trade relationship, but Trump’s reckless tariffs are threatening to unravel the relationship we’ve spent”.

Later that same day, Pettersen addressed conditions for children detained during Trump’s presidency: “Since Trump took office, his administration has detained more than 6,200 children. And the conditions for those kids are reprehensible – we’re hearing reports of no edible food, no access to drinking water, and no medical care. As a mom, I truly cannot fathom the pain these”.

Brittany Pettersen began serving in Congress in 2023 after previously holding seats in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature from 2013 through early 2023. She succeeded Ed Perlmutter as representative for Colorado’s 7th district and currently resides in Lakewood. Born in Colorado in 1981 and now aged 41, Pettersen holds a BA from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
