U.S. Rep. Brittany Pettersen, who represents Colorado’s 7th district in Congress, has recently shared her positions on homelessness, animal welfare, law enforcement policy, and immigration enforcement through a series of posts on social media.

On August 12, 2025, Pettersen highlighted her support for the PUPP Act alongside Rep. Jason Crow at the Humane Society of Colorado: “Pets are family. No one should have to choose between a safe place to sleep and keeping them.

Proud to join @RepJasonCrow at @humanecolorado to introduce the PUPP Act to ensure Coloradans experiencing homelessness aren’t forced to abandon their pets.” This initiative aims to address challenges faced by people experiencing homelessness who own pets.

Later that same day, Pettersen criticized former President Donald Trump’s reported plans regarding law enforcement in Washington D.C.: “Trump’s plan to seize control of D.C.’s police & unleash the National Guard on the city’s youth & homeless is lawless and a terrifying abuse of power.

Does anyone really think the twice-impeached, twice-indicted instigator of a violent insurrection cares about public safety?”

On August 13, she expressed concern over federal immigration enforcement practices: “It’s terrifying that the hundreds of billions of dollars dedicated to ICE and their unlawful actions are going to be more widespread and impact Colorado.

There isn’t a person who doesn’t support making sure there is a process in place to deport convicted violent criminals — but”

Brittany Pettersen has served as U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District since 2023 after succeeding Ed Perlmutter. She previously held office in both chambers of Colorado’s legislature from 2013 through early 2023. Born in Colorado in 1981 and currently residing in Lakewood, she holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
