The Lodge at Red Rocks was recognized as the largest nursing home in Jefferson County during the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility provided 180 beds, which was 80 more than the county’s average in the same quarter. It accommodated an average of 135.1 residents at that time.

The Lodge at Red Rocks received a 1-out-of-5 overall CMS rating, below Colorado’s nursing home average of 3.2.

For the quarter, Oakwood Care and Rehabilitation was the county’s second largest nursing home with 170 beds, while Mountain Vista Health Center placed third with 168 beds available.

By the first quarter of 2026, The Lodge at Red Rocks had been issued five fines totaling $204,620 and received six penalties.

Jefferson County, Colorado, had 21 for-profit nursing facilities in total.

U.S. Census Bureau estimates indicate the country’s older adult population continues to expand, while younger age groups are shrinking. From 2020 to 2024, the 65-plus age group grew by 13%, while the population under 18 decreased by 1.7%. Over the past century, the older adult population has increased significantly, climbing from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million by 2024.

A 2021 study estimates that nearly half of adults in this age group—about 28 million—are likely to need long-term services and supports, with more than a third projected to eventually require nursing home care.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance, an insurance education organization. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
