Wheat Ridge issued the following announcement on Dec. 8.
The Community Advisory Group is established to provide an opportunity for community members to have an open discussion and provide input to the Chief of Police and department staff regarding significant community issues. This can include dialogue on relationship-based policing and crime prevention programs; increasing public awareness of the department and its programs; and other matters deemed appropriate by the Chief of Police. The group is not a review board of any specific police action, whether internal or external.
Meetings occur every two months on the second Wednesday. Qualifications: anyone who resides or works in Wheat Ridge, the ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively in the exchange of ideas and opinions with people of diverse perspectives and experience, and a commitment to improving police services in Wheat Ridge.
Applicants must submit a written recommendation from a member of the Advisory Group or arrange a meeting with a member to discuss interest in joining. Additionally, applicants must agree to a background check as well as an interview with the Chief of Police.
