Invisalign® for Cleft Palates? Researchers Team Up to Bring Birth-Defect Treatment Home

Chancellor Don Elliman delivered his annual State of the Campus Address on Oct. 19 to an in-person audience for the first time since 2019.

Faculty, staff and students gathered in the Anschutz Health Sciences Building – and hundreds tuned in online – for this year’s presentation, which highlighted inspiring stories of colleagues and peers making advances in all areas of our mission.

“This year, I want to take an opportunity to tell a different story: your story,” Elliman said. “I’d like to shine a spotlight on you and share some of the thousands of stories of creativity, healing and service that only happen at CU Anschutz.”

Highlights included faculty advancements in brain health, personalized medicine and bioinformatics, novel therapeutics and climate medicine. Throughout this story are the video highlights shared at the event.

Elliman spoke of growth in research and academics and spotlighted some of the bright students who have chosen CU Anschutz for their education.

Elliman applauded staff and students for their commitment to making our campus welcoming and inclusive. He noted the efforts that have created the CU Anschutz LGBTQ+ Hub, launched the Center for Health Equity and the Aurora Wellness Community, as well as created a growing number of career pathway programs.

Terri C. Carrothers, executive vice chancellor of administration and finance and chief financial officer, shared a high-level look at financials and expressed gratitude for the great many people who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the past several years to keep our campus moving forward.

Elliman noted that we have a role to play in addressing challenges on the horizon, including the lasting effects of COVID-19 and the disparities the pandemic laid bare, as well as rising healthcare costs and lack of access to quality care. He noted that our community has proven its ability to work through challenges together and come out stronger for it, and that each of us is vital to our story as a campus.

“I started today by telling you that our story at CU Anschutz is one of extraordinary people doing remarkable things,” he said. “I hope you felt that and leave here knowing you are the essential part of our history and our future.”
