The University of Colorado College of Nursing at the CU Anschutz Medical Campus has been ranked among the 2023 Best Online Master’s in Nursing and Leadership Programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report.

U.S. News & World Report listed the College of Nursing on the Anschutz Medical Campus as 10th best online Master’s degree program out of nearly 200 programs in 2023. It also named the College of Nursing’s MSN administration and leadership program, called i-LEAD, as 11th best online leadership program. CU Nursing also ranked #1 in Colorado for these programs.

U.S. News ranks schools according to a variety of objective factors, such as student engagement, faculty credentials, and services and technologies. The publication only ranks fully accredited programs in good standing.

“This is such exciting news. To move up from #26 last year to #10 this year is a testament to the excellence in our curriculum and faculty,” says Dean Elias Provencio-Vasquez, PhD, FAAN.

CU’s Master’s degree in nursing program prepares nurses to care for and promote the health of patients with wellness, acute or chronic illness and to manage and evaluate their care with communities and health care systems.

The online Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) leadership program guides nurses into leadership and administrative responsibilities in primary care, long-term care, home health positions and more. The program is called i-LEAD for Innovation in Leadership and Administration in Nursing and Health Care Systems. The entire course is taught online by exceptional faculty.

This year's edition evaluates more than 1,800 online bachelor's and master's degree programs. The Best Online Programs include rankings of bachelor's programs as well as the following master's-level disciplines: MBA, business (non-MBA), computer information technology (including computer science), criminal justice/criminology, education, engineering, and nursing. While the methodologies are different for each discipline, they all incorporate metrics specific to online learning. The rankings only include degree-granting programs that are offered primarily online by regionally accredited institutions. For CU Nursing, that includes the i-LEAD, health care informatics and veterans and military health care master’s programs.

"Most of the undergraduate programs in the Best Online Programs rankings are degree completion programs, meaning the vast majority of their students already have some college credit," said Liana Loewus, managing editor of Education at U.S. News. "The methodologies are developed with those students in mind, setting these rankings apart from those that are focused on recent high school graduates pursuing higher education for the first time."
