Pettersen, a Democratic member of Congress since 2023 and former member of the Colorado Senate and House of Representatives, addressed topics ranging from local governance to women's rights.

On January 22, 2025, Pettersen congratulated Chaffee County's new Commissioner Gina Lucrezi. In her tweet, she expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Lucrezi to support mountain towns and the Arkansas Valley. "Congratulations to Chaffee County’s new Commissioner, @GinaLucrezi."

Later that day, Pettersen reflected on the impact of Roe v Wade over nearly five decades. She emphasized the personal nature of family planning decisions and reaffirmed her commitment to advocating for women's rights. "For almost 50 years, Roe v Wade granted women the right to make decisions about their own lives."
