Brittany Pettersen, currently serving as the U.S. Representative for Colorado’s 7th District, has recently taken to Twitter to express her views on a bipartisan resolution concerning remote voting for new parents. Pettersen, who succeeded Ed Perlmutter in 2023, aims to allow new parents in Congress to vote remotely while caring for their newborns. Her advocacy stems from her background in the Colorado House of Representatives and the Colorado Senate.

On March 31, 2025, Pettersen, joined by Sam, voiced their demand for action from Speaker Johnson in Washington, D.C. Pettersen stated, "I’m back in DC with Sam to demand that Speaker Johnson hold a vote on our bipartisan resolution to allow new moms and dads to vote remotely while caring for their newborns." She accused the Speaker of using various strategies to prevent the bill from progressing, pointing out that, "Speaker Johnson himself has voted remotely 39 times—but now he’s pulling every trick in the book to stop."

The following day, April 1, 2025, Pettersen addressed her colleagues on the House floor, continuing her push for the resolution. She encouraged them to resist Speaker Johnson's efforts to block the initiative, stating, "I just finished speaking on the House floor with Sam to ask my colleagues to continue to stand with us and vote no on Speaker Johnson’s attempt to block our bipartisan resolution that would allow new parents to vote remotely." Pettersen criticized the Speaker's actions as being against women's interests, declaring, "What Speaker Johnson is pushing today is anti-woman."

Later that day, Pettersen reiterated her commitment to the resolution despite the Speaker's attempts to prevent its passage. She recognized the support she received from her fellow members of Congress, acknowledging, "Today, Speaker Johnson tried to block our bipartisan resolution to allow new moms and dads to vote remotely while caring for their newborns—but we refused to let him silence our voices." She expressed her gratitude, stating, "I’m incredibly grateful to every member who stood with us. Your support sends a clear message."
